TonoVet Veterinary Tonometer
Tonometry remains the primary diagnostic method for detecting glaucoma in animals by measuring intraocular pressure (IOP). These specialized devices assess pressure levels through external contact with the corneal surface.
Conventional devices such as the Tonopen Vet employ applanation technology, requiring manual contact against the cornea. The device calculates the force needed to flatten the corneal surface and displays results in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg).
The TonoVet represents an advancement in diagnostic technology through rebound tonometry. This compact, handheld device operates approximately 1/4 inch from the eye. With a single button press, a small probe makes brief, gentle contact with the cornea to capture six measurements in seconds. Animals typically show minimal reaction, eliminating the need for topical anesthesia. An audible signal confirms successful readings, which appear on the digital display.
This device has proven effective across all veterinary species, including horses. Built-in software provides automatic calibration.
