Horse Mama: Healing Through Gentle Light – How Laser Therapy Supports Bodywork Sessions
Meet Camilla, the heart and mind behind HorseMama ApS and the creator of SMILE

Horsemanship ©️. As an expert in horsemanship and equine bodywork, Camilla has dedicated her life to building stronger, more empathetic connections between horses and the people who love them. Her mission goes beyond training—it’s about nurturing both the physical and emotional well-being of horses, while guiding handlers to truly understand their equine partners.
The inspiration for SMILE Horsemanship came in 2019, when a young girl confided in Camilla her sadness over not understanding the pony she rode at riding school. That moment sparked a powerful purpose: to help children and young people develop deeper awareness, compassion, and confidence in their relationships with horses.
Through SMILE—See, Mind, Inspire, Listen, Ease—Camilla offers a simple yet profound framework that reminds us all that horsemanship is not just about technique, but about kindness, respect, and connection.
Here is our conversation with her.
Can you tell us more about your work with horses and the services you provide through HorseMama Bodywork?”
For the past eight years, I’ve been running my own business, combining my work as a SMILE

Horsemanship instructor with my passion for supporting horses through bodywork sessions. HorseMama Bodywork is a harmonious blend of several beneficial therapies and techniques. Each session is designed to support the horse through a holistic approach, which may include traditional equine massage, trigger point therapy, fascia release and testing, as well as Reiki. Laser therapy is also part of the toolbox.
Why Laser Therapy for horses?
In my sessions, I use the PowerMedic PowerLaser Basic500 VET, which is a class 3B laser. This is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that helps the body’s natural healing processes. I often use it to treat trigger points, especially on horses that are highly sensitive to touch or have areas of extreme soreness. For these horses, laser therapy can be a wonderful way to provide deep relief without causing stress or discomfort.
Many of my clients are rehabilitation horses. Some have been pushed far beyond their limits – physically, mentally, and sadly, sometimes even subjected to neglect or mistreatment. These horses often need bodywork the most, but can’t tolerate much hands-on work in the beginning. The laser becomes an invaluable tool in these situations.
I also use it to support the healing of minor wounds, and in collaboration with veterinarians, for tendon injuries and other more serious conditions. In all cases, the therapy remains gentle, aiming to help the horse recover without adding extra strain.
How the PowerLaser Works?
The PowerLaser™ Basic500 VET emits light at 808nm, the wavelength that penetrates body tissue most effectively. This light reaches muscles, deep tendons, and even bone, delivering energy directly to cells in need of extra “fuel” to support the body’s own healing processes.
It can be used on both acute and long-term injuries, and with its two programs, I can select the exact effect that’s optimal for the specific treatment. Whether I’m working on a fresh injury or an old, stubborn issue, the laser supports the horse from the inside out – helping the body repair itself.

Camilla’s journey with HorseMama and SMILE Horsemanship is a beautiful reminder that working with horses is about so much more than training—it’s about listening, healing, and building trust. Through her holistic approach to bodywork and her thoughtful teaching, she’s giving both horses and humans the tools they need to thrive together. Whether it’s easing pain through laser therapy, supporting rehabilitation, or guiding young riders toward a deeper understanding of their equine partners, Camilla continues to create ripples of positive change in the horse world.
